Even one missing tooth can compromise your smile and make you self-conscious. Replacing a missing tooth is important for many reasons, including maintaining a functional smile for the long run.
Missing teeth can cause complex oral health concerns as well at other health concerns. Even “just one” missing tooth can have a detrimental effect on the health and function of your smile as teeth begin to shift, bone is lost in the jaw and these changes affect the bite.
The sooner you seek treatment for your missing tooth, the more effective and conservative the treatment will be.
A missing tooth can create a whole range of health concerns. From chronic halitosis to an increased risk of developing gum disease, a missing tooth is both a cosmetic and oral health concern. A dental implant is an investment in your health, confidence, and overall well-being.
A dental implant is the most natural-looking and sustainable option for replacing a single tooth. An implant is a surgically implanted titanium post that replaces the missing root structure. Over a 3-6 month period, the titanium post will fuse with the natural bone helping it to support the structure of the jaw and to provide a secure base for the attachment of a dental restoration.
Single Dental Implant What to Expect
Dr. Ira Goldberg and Dr. Rajeev Upadya offer single-tooth dental implants in East Hanover, NJ for patients who are only missing one tooth. We offer the complete process for dental implants so you don’t have to visit multiple specialists.
Our dentists will handle the pre-treatment planning and implant restoration parts of the procedure. Dr. Upadya or Dr. Goldberg can do the surgical implantation part of the dental implant process, but in severe cases they may coordinate treatment with an oral surgeon or periodontist who will perform the surgery.
For a single implant, the surgical implantation will generally last about an hour. It will take about three to six months for the implant to fully fuse with the surrounding jaw bone, a process known as osseointegration.
In 3-6 months, the implant will be uncovered and a small piece called an abutment will be connected to it. This part will support the dental crown. Dr. Upadya or Dr. Goldberg will secure the crown creating a durable and stable replacement tooth.
The dental crown will be custom designed to aesthetically fit your smile. Dental implants provide natural, tooth-like replacement options for a missing tooth. They allow patients to maintain a normal oral hygiene routine and eat and speak with confidence. Implants also provide long-term support of the jaw bone and deter deterioration or recession of the facial structure.
